When people come to counseling, it is because they want something to be different in their lives.
They may want to change their life situation, solve a particular problem, make a decision, or
understand what is happening in their lives or in themselves.

As a first step in the counseling process, you and I will explore your feelings and concerns and what
changes and/or decisions you want to make in your life. As your counselor, I will serve you as a
facilitator. When we both understand your situation, I will help facilitate various ways for you to get
from your life what changes you seek. As your counselor, I will challenge you to explore and evaluate lifestyles, choices, and goals with the objective of identifying possible restrictive beliefs,
as well as assist you in reevaluating and developing new insight in your life. This will include a
greater degree of self-understanding, leading to the desired changes you seek.

As a counselor, I believe each person is unique and self-consistent. Each person is a chooser who
determines and controls her/his own behavior and is an active participant for her/his own life's
direction. I believe for counseling to be most effective, one must make a commitment of time and
energy to take an active part in the process. This may well involve activities outside the counseling
session(s), as well as involve issues of pain and discomfort and areas of deep contemplation about
one's life.

Most counseling sessions take place weekly and last 60-minutes. Depending on your concerns,
however, sessions may be scheduled more or less frequently. The number of counseling sessions
needed varies with each person and their unique situation. After we fully understand your reason(s)
for seeking counseling, we will discuss the number of sessions which might benefit your situation.
