At Providence we believe that the Bible alone is our final authority for what
we believe and how we ought to live. We are grateful to God for His raising
up men through the ages have expounded and defended the truths of the bible.
One crucial point in history where God raised up people who would defend the
teachings of the Bible was the Protestant Reformation of the 16th and 17th
centuries. Like those in the Reformation, We understand that the Bible is
God’s inspired and inerrant word. He has given it as the final authority to
teach and lead the church. We believe that Jesus Christ is the only hope
for humanity. His life, death, and resurrection is the only basis for being
accepted by God. We believe that the only way that anyone can partake
of Christ’s work is through faith. Good works are done only out of gratitude
for the salvation that Christ accomplished. They can do nothing to justify
anyone in the sight of God. We believe that there is nothing within those
who believe the gospel that moved God to provide salvation for them.
The only reason God grants salvation to anyone is His own desire to glorify
Himself by revealing His grace and mercy. A more complete description
of our beliefs can be found in the Westminster Confession of Faith and in
it’s Larger and Shorter Catechisms.

Presbyterians are the largest and most theologically liberal of all American Protestant denominations. With issues such as birth control and abortion, they believe that is up to the individual to decide for themselves. Feel free to browse our directory to find a Christian church near you.
