He served as a missionary under the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism for sixteen years in the Philippines, and eight years in the USA.

He earned his Doctorate of Missiology degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, an Masters of Arts in Missiology at Grace Theological Seminary, and a Bachelor of Theology degree from Baptist Bible Seminary in Johnson City, NY (now Baptist Bible College of Clark Summit, PA). He has also taken graduate studies in linguistics at the University of Washington, theology courses at Grand Rapids Baptist Bible Seminary, and Bible courses at Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, Iowa.
