In June of 1870 sixty-five African Americans organized a church under a brush arbor in what is now McComb. The land was sold to the Colored Baptist Church of McComb in 1883. While construction was being completed, worship service was held in a tent on the church property. In 1885 a frame wooden building was completed. The sight is also note as site for the Underground Railroad during the time of slavery.
