The creative challenge for progressive churches is finding the balance between being Christ focused and universally inclusive. If a progressive church focus is on Christ (in theology and practice), it is uncomfortable with being universally inclusive. If a progressive church is universally inclusive, there is a subtle de-emphasis on Christ. Northbrae attempts to balance both concepts. We believe that the underlying message of Jesus is a way of being spiritual, whatever the context or tradition.

Most people who come to Northbrae are from a Christian background. Some come from other traditions while others come with a more general identity, wanting to explore their spirituality.

Northbrae offers a spiritual comfort-zone free from judgment or pressure and open to spiritual formation. You can explore the gifts of many traditions for deepening your own understanding and practice of Christianity.

As a congregation, we seek to contribute our part towards enabling inner peace and greater compassion for humanity and all creation.
